Organic Comfrey Leaf (Symphytum × uplandicum)
Botanical Name: Symphytum x uplandicum
Origin: Bulgaria, Croatia
Certification: Organic & Kosher
Processing: Non-ETO • Non-Irradiated • Ethically harvested
Our Organic Comfrey Leaf is carefully harvested and cut and sifted from mature plants in Europe. Native to Europe and Asia and now widely cultivated, comfrey is a hardy perennial known for its large, textured leaves covered in fine hairs.
Traditionally referred to as “knitbone,” comfrey has been valued for thousands of years in herbal traditions. The leaves contain naturally occurring compounds such as allantoin and mucilage. Allantoin is associated with supporting skin renewal, while the herb’s mucilage content gives it a soothing, moistening quality. Dried comfrey leaf has a mild, cucumber-like aroma with slightly earthy undertones. Susun Weed, an American herbalist, has a great article discussing the safety and controversy of using Comfrey internally here.
Comfrey is also prized in sustainable gardening. The plant’s deep roots draw up minerals from the soil, and its nutrient-rich leaves are commonly used to enrich compost and garden beds.

How to Use
Infusion: Steep 1 ounce by weight of dried comfrey leaf in a quart-sized mason jar. Pour boiling water over the herb, stir, and cover. Let steep for 4 to 6 hours or overnight. Strain thoroughly and refrigerate. For more detailed instructions and additional information, see my free infusion guide.
Garden Preparation (Liquid Comfrey Compost): Fill a container with fresh or dried comfrey leaves and cover with water. Allow to steep for several weeks until broken down. Strain and dilute before applying to soil around flowers, shrubs, and trees as a nutrient-rich plant feed.
Please note: Product appearance, including colour and cut size, may vary from lot to lot due to natural growing conditions.
